  • Trained as a teacher.
  • Specialised in ceramics. Also studied oil and mixed media, and basic sculpture.
  • Taught in schools, where most lessons had an art bias, whatever the subject!
  • Continued studying painting and pottery in the evenings.
  • Short studies at Southend and Colchester art schools, in ceramics.
  • While raising 3 daughters and renovating houses, continued studying life drawing and ceramics.

  • In 1985 moved to School House near Boxford, Suffolk.
  • Purchased house from Edward Middleditch and humbly inherited his Studio.
  • Painted for many years with the Little Cornard Art Group, and also with John Constable at his studio in Dedham.

  • Continued studying ceramics with Alan Baxter at his Pottery workshops in Somersham, near Ipswich.
  • Short course at the Welch pottery studios with Jenny Welch.
  • Set up own pottery for regular classes for students of all ages.
  • Often taken pottery sessions in schools to fit in with curriculums, whether Romans etc. masks, tiles, Andrew Goldsworthy or sawdust firing.
  • Taught pottery at Salters Hall School in Sudbury for many years.
  • Have run Saturday classes for children in pottery.
  • Teach groups of children or adults whenever they can come, or for special occasions or corporate days.

  • Also held classes for a wonderful group from Headway in Colchester set up to help people with brain injuries.
  • Have taught painting to a group battling with the effects of a stroke, and now teach them pottery.
  • I have probably learned as much from these wonderful people as they have from me.

  • Alongside this I have painted in watercolour for many years and latterly fallen again for acrylics and oils.
  • Had many solo and shared painting exhibitions.
  • Paintings in collections in Canada, USA, Australia and Europe, as well as UK.
  • For the last four years exhibited with my daughter, Jo Land, and her ceramics in my studio at the School House.

  • Continue to love painting and ceramics, both trying to attain a higher standard in each myself and teaching others to bring out their own talent, and experience the joy of both.
  • The challenges and potentials of each are limitless.
